Defamation Legal Education Session

1 December 2016

PILA is hosting a legal education session on the threat of defamation for NGOs.

NGOs frequently undertake campaigning which may involve making statements on the activities and ethics of high-profile companies and politicians, on issues of a sensative nature or that may illicit response from those who feel that their reputation has been damaged. In recent times, concerns of exposure to defamation actions have increased with the rising use of social media, such as posting on websites, Facebook and Twitter, which make it easier for people to commit defamation due to greater access to methods of publication.

This session is therefore intended to provide NGOs with an understanding of how to manage the risk of defamation, to enable them to pursue their organisational goals more effectively.

The session will run from 9am-11am.
