Civil Partnership Act Seminars 18 November, 22 November, 23 November 2011

The Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Act 2010 came fully into force on 1st January 2011. This is an essential and important piece of legislative reform and change that will need to be in the consciousness of lawyers to fully advise clients and deal with issues that will arise in practices in the future. The Act defines new relationships recognised by the law ( civil partnership registration for same-sex couples) as well as establishing a redress scheme for opposite-sex and same-sex couples cohabiting and provisions concerning Maintenance, Domestic Violence, Succession, Nullity and Dissolution and Shared Home Protection as well as other matters in these newly recognised social relationships.

The lecture programme will deal with:
● Formalities, requirements, and Registration of Civil Partnerships, and provisions relating to Dissolution and Nullity of these relationships.
● Rights of Cohabitants and the new legal provisions relating to Qualified Cohabitation relationships and who is a Qualified Cohabitant under the Act.
● Succession Law, particularly relating to technical aspects of the new provisions, and property rights under the Act.
