Date: 17 October
Time: 1 – 3.30 pm
Venue: National Library, Kildare Street, Dublin 2
PILA and the Equality Budgeting Campaign are facilitating a joint civil society response to the budget and calling for reforms to the budgetary process including equality impact assessments and minimum living standards based on Ireland’s international human rights obligations. The event is intended to help the NGOs who represent the most vulnerable groups in Ireland to come together and speak with one voice in calling for a fairer budget.
Prior to the Budget's announcement, PILA will circulate a set of simple survey questions to participating NGOs. On 15 October, the day of the Budget, the NGOs will answer the questions and send their responses to PILA. PILA and the Equality and Budgeting Campaign will collate the NGOs' answers on 16 October. Two days after the Budget, (International Day for the Eradication of Poverty - 17 October), the NGOs will come together again in the National Library for a press conference and a discussion forum to put together a joint post-budget submission.
A number of NGOs are already involved in this initiative. If your organization is interested in taking part by answering the survey questions the day after the Budget, and attending the joint press conference and discussion forum event on 17 October, please contact PILA's Project Officer Mairead Healy on 01 872 8048 or mairead.healy@flac.ie.
