Invitation to Tender: Nasc Research Project on immigration related detention in Ireland – deadline 29 October 2014

Nasc, the Irish Immigrant Support Centre is commissioning independent research to analyse immigration related detention in Ireland and the treatment of detainees for immigration related offences, including those who are detained following a refusal of permission to land. This project is funded by the St Stephen’s Green Trust.

The research project aims to review current legislation, jurisprudence, policy and practice in Ireland in relation to the detention of migrants for immigration related offences and benchmark this against international human rights standards. The research will explore and analyse the current policy and practice of detaining migrants who are refused permission to land in Garda Stations and Airports  and on what grounds are they detained.

The project involves qualitative research arising from interviews with detained migrants and former detainees, with a focus on the legal basis of their detention, the period of detention, detainees awareness of their rights and entitlements, access to legal representation and support services, treatment during detention, access to the asylum process, experiences post detention.

Written proposals should be submitted by email to recruitment@nascireland.org.

Closing date for proposals is 5pm on Wednesday 29 October 2014.
