Date: 30 October, 11.30 am – 12.30 pm.
Location: Franciscan Friary, 4, Merchant’s Quay, Dublin 8.
Seminar Topic: PILA and Transparency International Ireland are hosting a seminar on the new Protected Disclosures Act 2014.
The Protected Disclosures Act 2014 came into force in July of this year. For the first time, it provides protection for workers in all sectors of the Irish economy.
The main features of the Act include:
· A prohibition on the penalisation of workers who make a ‘protected disclosure’ of wrongdoing;
· A wide definition of ‘worker’;
· A broad range of ‘wrongdoings’ which may be reported; and
· A stepped disclosure system which encourages workers to report to employers in the first instance.
This seminar is aimed at not-for-profit organisations, to raise awareness of the new Act amongst both managers (including HR managers) and other staff.
Speaker: Susheela Math Legal Counsellor with Transparency International Ireland. Transparency International Ireland is an independent, not-for-profit organisation. It advised the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform on the new Act.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the seminar, attendees will have increased awareness of:
· Key definitions of the Act;
· The types of disclosures which are protected; and
· The main protections afforded to whistleblowers.

A light lunch will be served following the seminar.
