The Equality & Rights Alliance (ERA) has published the next two papers in a series of publications aimed at informing and enabling best practice standards for the human rights and equality infrastructure in Ireland. The ERA is a coalition of over 170 civil society organisations and activists, representing a number of interest groups who protest the Irish Government’s undermining of equality, human rights, anti-racism and anti-poverty institutions.
The third paper in the series looks at the obligations forming part of the new public sector equality and human rights duty, set out in Section 42 of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014. This document sets out an ambition for the duty in a manner that integrates equality and human rights and offers two possible frameworks for such integration.
The fourth paper introduces ideas and practical proposals to initiate debate on how the ERA might develop an integrated approach in its work and the potential in such an integrated approach. Particularly, the publication explores the different traditions in tackling equality and human rights issues before establishing the positives and pitfalls in integrating these traditions.
