Pro Bono Week 2026

Pro Bono Week Ireland will take place from the 8th to 12th June 2026.

Pro Bono Week Ireland is a part of a wider project, i.e. European Pro Bono Week, a multi-city, week-long event to celebrate and highlight the role played by the European lawyers in supporting civil society and human rights organizations and promoting access to justice for those in need. It is organized by the European Pro Bono Initiative, PILnet, Trustlaw, law firms and European pro bono clearinghouses and organizations.

A central objective of Pro Bono Week is to bring together various stakeholders in the pro bono ecosystem – lawyers, law students, non-profits, human rights activists, academics and business – for an engaging conversation about important issues relating to legal needs within Europe and the role for pro bono in tackling these issues. As such, this year in Ireland Pro Bono Week is organised by The Pro Bono Week Committee, law firm members of the Pro Bono Pledge Ireland,  and the Law Society of Ireland.

The Pro Bono Week Committee, consisting of PILA (The Public Interest Law Alliance), a project of FLAC, A&L Goodbody LLP, Arthur Cox LLP, Addleshaw Goddard LLP, Comyn Kelleher Tobin LLP, Matheson LLP, McCann FitzGerald LLP, Philip Lee LLP, RDJ LLP, VAS (Voluntary Assistance Scheme) , are pleased to invite you to participate in Pro Bono Week Ireland which celebrates the role played by volunteer lawyers supporting civil society and those in need. Reinforcing Pro Bono Ecosystems: Building Partnerships that Last

As part of this year’s programme, the Law Society of Ireland, in collaboration with PILA, will host an online session taking place at 4:30pm on 11 June, focused on strengthening pro bono ecosystems through collaboration and sustained partnerships across the legal profession and with external organisations. Featuring representatives from the Law Society of Ireland, the Bar Council of Ireland, and FLAC, the session will explore the legal profession’s contribution to pro bono work and its role in supporting and promoting access to justice.

Taking a celebratory approach, the session will showcase the breadth and impact of pro bono activity through real case studies and examples. Attendees will gain a practical flavour of the different types of pro bono work being undertaken, including preventative justice, as well as insight into how individuals and organisations can get involved. The discussion will also draw on findings from the 2025 report, highlighting the number of solicitors and firms engaged and the total pro bono hours contributed. Contributions will include insights linked to Justice Indicators and reported pro bono activity, alongside examples of collaboration with external bodies that support access to justice.

Designed to be accessible to all pro bono participants—including those already engaged and those interested in becoming involved—this session will provide a clear and practical overview of how pro bono operates in practice and the collective role of the profession in sustaining it.

By attending, participants will:

  • Gain insight into the scale and impact of pro bono work in Ireland
  • Hear real examples illustrating different approaches to pro bono, including preventative justice
  • Understand how pro bono activity is structured and supported across the profession
  • Identify ways to engage with or expand their involvement in pro bono work

This session highlights how reinforcing pro bono ecosystems and building partnerships that last can strengthen the legal profession’s ability to respond to legal need and support access to justice.

Register to attend and be part of the conversation on how the profession can continue to collaborate, contribute, and make an impact through pro bono work.
