On 19 March PILA facilitated a Legal Education Session for representatives of 5 national organisations working with and representing the rights of older persons. The session was attended by representatives of Age and Opportunity, Active Retirement Ireland, Age Action, Third Age and the Alzheimers Society of Ireland.
The session focused on a number of policy areas of particular concern to the organisations, including a detailed overview and breakdown of the legal frameworks in relation to older persons health and long term care; nursing homes and institutional settings; the protection of vulnerable adults in law; and the long awaited Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Bill.
The session was delivered by PILA pro bono barrister, Teresa Blake SC, and kindly sponsored by William Fry.
In partnership with William Fry, PILA will facilitate a number of legal education sessions in the coming year. If you think your organisation would benefit from free legal training, please contact Eamonn Tansey at eamonn.tansey@flac.ie.
