IHRC criticises Ireland's failure to combat racial discrimination; CERD findings due 11th March

The previous Bulletin reported that Ireland would appear before the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In their representations to the Committee, the Irish Human Rights Commission criticised the disabling of human rights and equality infrastructure in tandem with a high level of racial discrimination and abuse in Ireland, calling for reinstated funding for equality and human rights bodies. They stated that refusal to recognise Travellers as an ethnic minority displays lack of understanding and called on the State to address discrimination faced by Travellers. They also called on the government to ratify the UN Convention on Migrant Workers.
