UN condemns Syria killings as Amnesty urges ICC referral; ICC finds grounds for Libyan prosecution

The Secretary-General of the United Nations Security Council has spoken out against the killings of peaceful protesters in Syria stating that he condemns "utterly, the continuing violence against peaceful demonstrators". Please click here to view a press release.

Amnesty International has called on the UN Security Council to take action and refer Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Colm O'Gorman, Executive Director of Amnesty International Ireland, stated "The Syrian government is clearly trying to shatter the will of those peacefully calling for change by shelling them, firing on them and locking them up". Meanwhile the chief prosecutor at the ICC has stated that there are reasonable grounds to charge Colonel Gaddaffi's forces with crimes against humanity and noted that shootings at peaceful protesters had been systematic.
