ICCL seeks UN Universal Periodic Review Project Officer, closing date 22 June 2011

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) is Ireland's leading independent human rights watchdog. Founded in 1976 by Mary Robinson and others, the ICCL works to secure the full implementation in Ireland of international human rights standards. The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a new United Nations process to review the human rights records of all UN member states every four years. Ireland will be examined under the UPR for the first time towards the end of 2011.

The ICCL is fortunate to have secured significant funding to support its UPR work and is currently leading a UPR Cross Sectoral Steering Group. The Cross Sectoral Steering Group has already produced a sector-leading UPR Stakeholder Report, available at www.rightsnow.ie. We now wish to recruit a full-time United Nations Universal Periodic Review Project Officer to join our UPR team.

Under the overall authority of the Director of the ICCL and the direct supervision of the UPR Project Manager, the UPR Project Officer will assist the organisation's UPR team to deliver the ICCL's ambitious UPR project plan. The UPR Cross Sectoral Steering Group which includes representatives from a broad range of civil society organisations will provide additional advice and guidance to the UPR team.

The successful candidate will have: the capacity to integrate effectively into a small high-performance staff team; demonstrable experience of event management; excellent organisational and administrative skills; first-rate drafting abilities and the proven capacity to produce high-quality work to tight deadlines. A qualification in human rights, international relations or a closely-related discipline would be an advantage.

This is a fixed-term position for up to six months, which will suit an ambitious and well-qualified person who can demonstrate the ability to render international human rights standards meaningful in practice.

A fixed fee monthly fee in the region of €2,900 per month will be offered to the successful candidate. The ICCL offers a dynamic and flexible working environment and the chance to use your skills and knowledge to make a genuine difference.

Full details of the position are hyperlinked below and are available on request from the ICCL at 9-13 Blackhall Place, Dublin 7 (info@iccl.ie or 01 7994504). The closing date for applications is 5pm on 22 June 2011.
