UK Equality and Human Rights Commission launches online library resource

The UK Equality and Human Rights Commission in conjunction with the Human Rights and Social Justice Research Institute at the London Metropolitan University have launched an online library facility featuring human rights guidance for the public service in England and Wales.

The online library provides guidance in the areas of adult social care, children's services, criminal justice, courts and prisons, education services, health, housing; immigration and asylum, local government and policing. The resources are targeted at UK public sector workers, but will also be a useful tool for human rights advocates. In order to make the library more user-friendly, information has been organised by the sector(s) it relates to, the themes and topics it deals with, including a description of the type of guidance provided.

As well as providing information on human rights standards, the website details fundamental (and sometimes difficult to understand) principles involved with the protection of human rights such as proportionality, positive obligations and assessing and managing risks.
