Call for Nominations: PILnet’s European Award for Partnership in the Public Interest, deadline 7 October 2011

PILNet, the Global Network for Public Interest Law, is seeking nominations for its inaugural European Award for Partnership in the Public Interest. This award will recognize the best pro bono legal project undertaken jointly between a non-governmental organization and a law firm in Europe.

Nominations for the award should consist of a narrative no longer than two pages describing projects that have positively influenced at least one European country and were completed in the 12 months prior to September 2011. Nominations should address the following criteria:

  • Produced a significant impact on people's lives
  • Influenced legislation or the decisions of public authorities in the public interest
  • Strengthened the development of civil society
  • Improved protection of human rights
  • Expanded access to justice
  • Mobilized significant resources on the part of the partner law firm
  • Strengthened awareness among lawyers of the importance of pro bono work.

The nomination period is open until 7 October 2011. The award will be bestowed on 18 November 2011, during the closing session of the 2011 European Pro Bono Forum in Berlin. At the same time, PILnet's prestigious European Award for Extraordinary Contribution to the Development of Pro Bono Culture will also be announced.
