The PILS Project and PILA cordially invite you to their joint conference:

Using international standards beyond the European Convention on Human Rights

Thursday 7 June 2012 at Holiday Inn, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast

Keynote speaker: Asma Jahangir, internationally renowned lawyer and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.

There will also be contributions from a range of lawyers, academics and representatives of NGOs from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The conference will focus on:

  • How international human rights standards can be used in the courts in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland;
  • How barriers to using international human rights standards in domestic courts can be overcome;
  • Inspiring lawyers and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to be more creative in using international human rights standards to advance their work.

Conference attendees will be able to choose between three breakout sessions looking at (1) economic and social rights; (2) equality and non-discrimination; and (3) how NGOs and lawyers can collaborate to increase the use of international human rights in the courts.
