PILA & Marriage Equality International Bar Association Event - 4 October, Dublin

The Public Interest Law Alliance is organising an exciting public event on three important legal rights issues to coincide with the International Bar Association’s annual conference.

Speaking on Marriage Equality is R. Douglas Elliott LSM, one of Canada’s leading constitutional lawyers, with many Supreme Court cases on LGBT rights to his credit including Hislop v. Canada and the leading same-sex marriage case in Canada Reference Re Same Sex Marriage. Justine Quinn BL, co-founder of the LGBT Lawyers Association of Ireland and Board member of Marriage Equality will speak from the Irish perspective.

Speaking on Indigenous people’s rights is Garth Wallbridge, a leading Canadian Attorney on aboriginal rights and chair of the Canadian Bar Association Aboriginal Law Section Attorney. Susan Fay, the Irish Traveller Movement Law Centre’s Managing Solicitor will speak from the Irish perspective.

Speaking on Poverty, business and human rights is Lloyd Lipsett of the IBA’s Human Rights Institute’s taskforce on illicit financial flows, poverty and human rights and expert on human rights impact and compliance assessment related to business and trade. Lloyd will discuss the taskforce’s ongoing work in this area.

Noeline Blackwell, Director General of FLAC will chair the event.
