Law Centre for Children and Young People seeks Director- Deadline 9 November

The Law Centre for Children and Young People is seeking to recruit a full-time Director who
will play a key role in the establishment of the centre. The successful candidate will have
an understanding of the law as it affects children and young people, have experience of
advocating for the legal interests of children, experience in management, and will have the
capacity to develop relationships with a range of stakeholders.
 
The Centre’s activities will be undertaken by a small staff, led by a Director who will provide
the leadership, vision and direction to the organisation. The Director will initially be assisted
by a part-time administrator, while the appointment of a legal education officer is currently
being explored. The successful candidate will be offered a fixed term contract for 18
months. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
 
The Director will:
  • Have an understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people in
  • Ireland and be able to demonstrate knowledge of how the law can address those challenges, including through the use of court procedures and other remedies;
  • Have the capacity to establish and develop the Law Centre so that it can meet its aims;
  • Have the vision to clearly articulate the case for the Centre in order to seek and secure long term sustainable funding and to raise its profile;
  • Have the necessary skills to undertake the management of the Centre, to report to the Board of Directors and to liaise with funders on progress towards clearly defined outcomes;
  • Possess excellent communications and networking skills

 

Essential skills/qualifications:

  • Relevant Degree
  • Experience of advocating for the legal interests of children
  • Knowledge of international and domestic law relating to children and their rights
  • Prior experience of delivering on organisational strategy/development
  • Experience of fundraising

 

Desirable skills/qualifications:

  • Masters in human rights law/public interest law
  • Barrister or Solicitor
  • Knowledge of court procedures for representing children and young people
  • Experience of designing legal programmes
