Legal/Administrative Support Intern, Northside Community Law Centre (Limerick) – Deadline 24 April

Northside Community Law Centre have recently established  an independent community law centre in Limerick to support and promote the rights of disadvantaged and marginalised communities in the City  with particular remit for the regeneration areas. Limerick Community Law and Mediation Centre provide a range of legal services, some of which are designed to meet the specific needs of the regeneration communities and others which are available to the wider Limerick community. The main areas of work are the provision of direct support through legal advice and information clinics, advocacy, representation, legal education, campaigning and mediation.

We invite applications for the position of Legal/Administrative Support Intern for a 9 month period through Jobbridge (National Internship Scheme).  The Intern will be based in Limerick and will work in close collaboration with the Centre’s Solicitor, supporting the delivery of the full range of services to the communities.   This role will involve:

  • Legal support work;
  • The development (under direction) of a Legal Education Programme;
  • The development and support (under direction) of Mediation services;
  • Research on topical legal issues affecting the communities;and
  • Administrative support for the Centre. 

The intern will gain practical experience in:  the day to day running of a busy legal office; legal research; developing and maintaining policies and procedures; developing and supporting legal education courses. 

The intern will receive formal/informal training in: General office policies, procedures and systems, case management system etc. On completion, the intern will have attained skills in the use of legal procedures and systems and will have gained knowledge about case management and office administration.

Qualifications & Experience

A third-level qualification in law, human rights, social sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience is required for the role.

Candidates should possess the following: 

  • An interest in advocating for rights and equality.
  • An interest in mediation as a form of alternative dispute resolution.
  • A high level of information and communication technology competence.
  • An interest in research methodology and report writing.
  • A background working in similar (community or voluntary sector) position is desirable.

Terms and Conditions
This position is full-time (32 hours per week).  To be eligible for this internship you must be on the Live Register and currently in receipt of Jobseekers Benefit, Jobseekers Allowance or signing for Social Insurance Contribution credits for 3 months or more in the last 6 months.
