PILA NGO Roundtable: Young People and Social Welfare – 13 December, Dublin

A PILA roundtable will take place on Friday 13 December looking at the legality of the recent cuts to social welfare allowance to young people under 25. The roundtable has been called in response to concerns from a number of PILA’s stakeholder NGOs, who believe that the cuts are discriminatory against young people and that the drastic drop in their social welfare allowance would affect their ability to live in dignity.

The roundtable will allow for the opportunity for a discussion between NGOs and also lawyers working in the area of social welfare and human rights, to determine whether the cuts can be challenged at domestic level or through a submission at an international level. The event will be chaired by equality expert Orlagh O’Farrell, and speakers include Dr Mel Cousins and barristers Derek Shorthall and Fergal Crehan.

If you are interested in attending the roundtable, please get in touch with Mairead to confirm attendance by emailing Mairead.healy@flac.ie or telephoning 018728048.
