Head of Casework, Public Law Project, London – deadline 7 January 2015

Public Law Project (an independent, national, legal charity) aims to improve access to public law remedies for those facing poverty, discrimination or other disadvantage. They undertake research, policy initiatives, casework and training across public law areas. Their work is carried out by a small but committed group of staff and volunteers supported by an expert management committee. They have worked hard to merit a reputation for high quality, creative and ground-breaking legal work.

PLP is seeking an experienced lawyer to head their casework team for a year during a period of maternity leave. The successful candidate will also manage a major and exciting project concerned with the availability of legal aid and help formulate the strategic direction of their work during that time.

There is scope for flexibility in the final job description, but the expectation is that the successful candidate will be a practising solicitor or barrister with significant experience of public law/judicial review litigation. Ideally, the candidate will have a proven track record of strategic working, of ensuring the financial performance of a small team, and of project development and/or fundraising.

Although the role is temporary, there is a lot of scope for innovation. PLP has plans to expand and there will be potential for the right candidate to be offered a role beyond the fixed term, including on a permanent basis.

PLP is inviting expressions of interest by way of CV and cover letter. Please send these to h.whyman@publiclawproject.org.uk

Closing date: Please note that expressions of interest for this post must be with PLP by midnight Weds 7th January 2015.
