Centre for Disability Law and Policy at NUI Galway: Research Associate/Postdoctoral Researcher – deadline 3 March

Applications are invited for a full-time fixed term position as a Research Associate/Postdoctoral Researcher with the Centre for Disability Law and Policy at the National University of Ireland, Galway. It is available from March 2017 to 30 November 2018.

The successful candidate will provide senior research support to the Principal Investigator with two legal capacity projects - VOICES (Voices of Individuals: Collectively Exploring Self-determination) and the Civil Society Coalition on Legal Capacity Reform.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the broader ongoing research mission of the Centre.

Candidates should have a track record in a research environment with a strong background in disability law and policy or related studies. Proven expertise in human rights standards in the field of legal capacity is essential. Published research on disability law or policy issues, ideally in the area of legal capacity, is required. Applicants must have a primary degree, ideally a Master’s degree, in law, social policy or an area relevant to disability. Candidates must have a PhD (or 4 years research experience post qualification) in the field of legal capacity law and policy or narrative inquiry research with people with lived experience of intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, dementia or mental health experience.

a)      2,000 word research statement analysing the right to legal capacity in the context of one of the four thematic areas of the VOICES research project: contractual capacity, criminal responsibility, consent to treatment or consent to sex.
