European Children’s Rights Unit (University of Liverpool) and Coram: Children’s Rights following Brexit – 13 September, London

Date: 13 September 2017

Time: 3-5pm

Location: Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster

This event is co-organised by the European Children’s Rights Unit (University of Liverpool) and Coram, and hosted by Lord Russell of Liverpool.

In the Brexit White Paper and in her letter invoking Article 50, Theresa May made reference to building a better future for our children and grandchildren. Whilst there have been modest attempts to consult with children and young people about Brexit, debates so far have largely ignored the needs of children both in the UK and in the wider EU.

This seminar will consider the specific, key implications of Brexit for children and young people in the EU and UK, including in the devolved parts of the UK. The seminar will identify priorities affecting those under 18 and consider what action needs to be taken to ensure that they receive appropriate exposure in the broader Brexit negotiations. Importantly, the discussions will be informed by the findings of recent consultations with children and young people living in different parts of the UK and by the latest academic and NGO-related research. Leading children’s rights advocates across the UK will take part, as well as MPs, House of Lords peers, MEPS and Assembly Members from the devolved administrations.
