ERSI Research Assistant for European Migration Network – deadline 1 November 2017

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) is seeking to recruit a Research Assistant for a vacancy in the Irish National Contact Point (NCP) of the European Migration Network (EMN), located within the ESRI.    

This role involves contributing to various policy and research outputs produced by the NCP and assisting with EMN Ireland networking activities. The Research Assistant will be asked to monitor policy-related developments in Ireland and the EU, by collating and analysing information from various sources and by networking with relevant bodies in the migration and asylum fields. The successful candidate will also conduct desk research and assist with the writing of policy and research outputs. While this is not a statistical role the successful candidate may be expected to produce and/or check data tables. The Research Assistant will be asked to undertake general administrative tasks related to the project as required.   

Applicants should have some experience in policy analysis and/or research. Ideally applicants would have some familiarity with migration and asylum-related policy and its implementation in Ireland.  

The successful candidate will have:   

• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, including but not restricted to: law, sociology, international relations, economics, politics or geography; 

• An interest in policy-relevant research, ideally demonstrated in relevant work experience; 

• The ability to synthesise and summarise information concisely in an objective and comprehensive manner; 

• Strong attention to detail;  

• Knowledge and understanding of the subject area, including familiarity with the main stakeholders and policy developments in the fields of migration and international protection;  

• Excellent writing skills;  

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; 

• Organisational skills including good time management and proven ability to work to deadlines; 

• A flexible approach to tasks; 

• The ability to work on own initiative and as a team member.  

Appointments will be on a two year fixed-term contract basis and starting salary will be €31,221. The successful candidates will be based in the ESRI offices in Dublin 2.
