Aim and Objective

This lecture, will explore the potential impact of Brexit on human rights, in Ireland and at a wider European level. It will offer an opportunity to explore the risks and uncertainty that Brexit may bring, as well as considering prospective future challenges and possibilities for innovation and change in human rights. The lecture is brought to you by the Human Rights Committee in partnership with Law Society Professional Training. It is aimed at all those who might have an interest in human rights and who wish to gain an insight into the potential implications of Brexit for human rights, on a domestic and European level. 

Speaker

Professor Fiona de Londras (Deputy Head, Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham) Professor De Londras is the inaugural Professor of Global Legal Studies at the University of Birmingham, where she is also Deputy Head of Birmingham Law School. Author or editor of more than a dozen books and over sixty articles and chapters, Professor de Londras is internationally recognised for her work on human rights, comparative constitutional law, and counter-terrorism. Her research has been funded by the European Commission, the British Academy, the Leverhulme Trust, and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Foundation. She is the 2017 recipient of the Philip Leverhulme Prize awarded to outstanding early career researchers whose work has already attracted international recognition and whose future career is exceptionally promising. This will support her research from 2018-2021
