Community Law & Mediation: Training courses in Housing Law, HAP and Gender Discrimination

Community Law & Mediation (CLM) will run the following one-day training courses for individuals and advocates in March:

Housing Law and Prevention of Homelessness, Thursday 5th March, Carmelite Community Centre, Aungier Street: This course will examine the law relating to homelessness in Ireland and what the State’s obligations are to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It will look at social housing support, the application process and the scheme of allocations. It will explain tenancy rights, evictions, what constitutes an unlawful eviction, and how can this be challenged.

Rent Supplement and Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Schemes, Wednesday 11th March, Northside Civic Centre, Bunratty Road, Coolock: This course will examine the statutory framework and qualifying conditions regarding both schemes, in addition to eligibility requirements; maximum rental limits and the appeals process; changes to the rent supplement scheme introduced as a result of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2014; and aspects of the HAP scheme that may require amendment by way of law reform or further clarification.

Gender Discrimination in the Workplace, Tuesday 24th March, Carmelite Community Centre, Aungier Street: CLM has seen a consistent rise in the demand for free legal advice and representation in employment equality cases, including gender discrimination in the workplace. This course will provide an overview of the law in the area and will provide information and practical tips on providing advocacy and representation to individuals who are experiencing gender discrimination in the workplace.

Each course runs from 10am to 4pm and costs €150 (10% discount for CLM Members). For further information, visit www.communitylawandmediation.ie. To book, please email education@communitylawandmediation.ie or phone 01 847 7804.
