Law Centre NI: Senior Solicitor – closing date 24 February 2020

Law Centre Northern Ireland is looking for an inspiring and experienced lawyer. The senior solicitor will lead the legal team and help develop the social justice lawyers of the future. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced lawyer to make a lasting difference.

You will bring considerable legal expertise and skills to help us achieve our mission of promoting social justice in NI. You will be part of the Law Centre NI management team. Reporting to the Director, you will manage, develop and lead the legal team, supporting performance to achieve targets alongside your own legal advice and representation. You will lead the strategic litigation work of the organisation and work to promote progressive change to law, policy and practice in NI.

The Law Centre is a member of the Law Centres Network. Law Centre NI is a regional not-for-profit organisation that provides free legal advice and assistance to the public on social welfare law and is a specialist referral organisation for the advice sector across NI. The Law Centre delivers professional learning and development courses as well as quality assurance support to advisers across NI. Through public legal education and policy development, Law Centre NI supports the public to access and enjoy their legal rights.

This is a pivotal role in the organisation, particularly given the changing environment within which legal advice services are operating.

Job Purpose: This senior legal role will lead the Law Centre’s work in using the law for social change. The post holder will lead the legal team by undertaking casework that achieves progressive development of law and practice in NI. The post-holder will be responsible for leading on the Law Centre’s strategic litigation work.

Location: Belfast

Salary: SPC, point 40 – 42 (£36,153 - £38,052) commencing at point 40, £36, 153 (+ 3% employer pension contribution)

Post: 35 hours per week
