Inspiring Ideas @Trinity webinar series: Personal Freedom in a Time of Emergency – 3 June

COVID-19 presents an unprecedented public health crisis. New laws have been introduced at a rapid pace on the basis of compelling public health and economic concerns. Many of the laws infringe on our most fundamental values, while some impact most harshly on disadvantaged groups. It is essential that these laws be effective but also that rights and fundamental freedoms are protected insofar as possible, even in emergency circumstances. In this webinar, Prof Oran Doyle of Trinity Law School will discuss Ireland’s legal response to COVID-19 with Prof Arianna Vedaschi of Bocconi University in Milan. They will explore how different countries have designed their response to the COVID-19 crisis. In particular, they will focus on how it is possible to respect human rights, personal freedoms, and the rule of law in the midst of a global emergency.

Speakers:

  • Professor Oran Doyle - Trinity College Law School Dublin
  • Professor Arianna Vedaschi - Bocconi University Milan.
