Recruitment is commencing for the Children’s Rights Alliance and The Bar of Ireland prestigious one year Fellowship Programme.
Now in its sixth year, this exciting and important Fellowship is named in honour of Judge Catherine McGuinness, one of Ireland’s greatest children’s rights champions. This Fellowship is supported by the Family Lawyers’ Association of Ireland. The Fellow will work and be managed as part of the Children’s Rights Alliance Legal and Policy Team, which works to reform law and policy in the area of children’s rights and child law in the Irish context.
The position:
While the Children’s Rights Alliance offices are based at 7 Red Cow Lane, Smithfield, Dublin 7, this post will initially be undertaken remotely in adherence to Covid-19 guidance and the Alliance’s working arrangements.
Applicants should be recently-qualified barristers (preferably within four years) with a demonstrated interest and commitment to children’s rights and practicing law that particularly impacts children and young people. They must possess the ability to work on their own initiative as well as they will operate as part of the Children’s Rights Alliance team during the period of the Fellowship.
It is expected that the Fellowship will provide the successful applicant with a valuable opportunity to advocate to Government for the rights of children, analyse relevant legislative proposals that impact on children, contribute to research on the Children’s Rights Alliance annual flagship publication, Report Card, and to take part in providing legal information and support to our Access to Justice Helpline and Clinics.
The Fellow will prepare an article for the Bar Review and deliver a lecture/webinar for Law Library members. The Fellow will be provided with a unique developmental opportunity, enhancing their reputation and future employability. They will become a champion for children’s rights and will be better equipped to advocate to protect, promote and fulfil children’s rights.
