PILA Welcome Demetra Herdes Onboard as Legal Intern from UCD Sutherland School of Law

PILA are delighted to welcome Demetra Herdes to the team.

Demetra is in her third year studying for a bachelor’s degree of Civil Law in UCD Sutherland School of Law. She will work as a legal intern alongside PILA Legal Officer Danielle Curtis BL and Administrative Assistant Daithí O'Maonaigh, as part of a new legal placement module established by the School of Law in UCD. She has a strong interest in public interest issues, human rights, and IT law, and hopes to become a legal practitioner in the intersection area of these subjects.

Demetra has previously been an intern in Comhshaol, the Climate Bar Association of Ireland, working on the Environmental Code project and gathering stakeholder feedback on Ireland’s current ensemble of environmental laws. She also has experience working in a criminal law firm. In college, she is the leader of the social enterprise Greenbrew and co-founded an environmental student start-up. She is a volunteer in the UCD Free Legal Information Clinics, which aim to help students having law-related issues, and a contributor and sub-editor of the UCD Student Legal Publication.
