The Ukrainian Bar Association will host an online event on war crimes tribunals

Time of the event: Wednesday, 7 September 2022, at 2:30pm Irish Time.

Lawyers from around the world to attend the event discussing the history of war crimes tribunals, steps for ensuring accountability of perpetrators for the crimes committed in Ukraine, using international law to address the crime against Ukraine and how the International Bar Association can support other countries experiencing armed conflict.

The event takes the form of an interview with Dr. Mark Ellis, Executive Director of the International Bar Association (IBA). Dr. Ellis is one of the leading world experts in international law. Mark served as Legal Advisor to the Independent International Commission on Kosovo and was appointed by the OSCE to advise on the creation of Serbia’s War Crimes Tribunal. He was actively involved with the Iraqi High Tribunal and also acted as legal consultant to the defense team of Nuon Chea at the Cambodian War Crimes Tribunal (ECCC). He also assisted in the Hashim Thaci case before the Kosovo Special Chamber (KSC).

In 2013, Dr Ellis was admitted to the List of Assistants to Counsel of the International Criminal Court. In 2015, he was appointed as Chair of the UN created Advisory Panel on Matters Relating to Defence Counsel of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (previously to the ICTY and ICTR).
