The NGO Legal Guides were created as part of a cross-border project between The PILS Project, PILA and Arthur Cox Solicitors in both Belfast and Dublin.

Designed specifically with human rights organisations in mind, the guides cover a wide range of legal tools that NGOs can use in their day-to-day work, including:

  • Engaging with UN Special Procedures Mandate Holders
  • Taking Individual Complaints to UN Treaty Bodies
  • Individual Non-Court Mechanisms at European Level
  • The ‘Amicus Curiae’ procedure
  • Judicial Review

In Belfast, the NGO Guides are being launched during an in-person event this morning, Wednesday 21 September 2022, in which attendees can hear from human rights NGOs, who have used the processes in their changemaking work. Speakers in the Belfast event will include the Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) and the Participation and the Practice of Rights (PPR). Staff from PILS and Arthur Cox will also be on hand to talk to you about the support available through the PILS Pro Bono Register.
