Irish Red Cross: National Volunteer Development Officer – deadline 10 April 2023

Duration: 12 months fixed term contract (Maternity Cover)

Salary: €42k-€48k, depending on experience

Reporting to: Head of National Services

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

SUMMARY OF ROLE

The National Volunteer Development Officer supports the various activities of the Irish Red Cross and is responsible for ensuring efficient service provision for customers and timely support for volunteers, working in a team based environment. The officer, reporting to the Head of the Department, will be responsible for developing plans, in line with Irish Red Cross strategy for the development of new services, as well as the on-going administration and development of existing services.

ROLE RESPONSIBILTIES

  • In conjunction with local volunteer managers, ensure appropriate training and supports available for volunteer programme areas e.g. membership induction, Area and Branch Officer Training
  • Develops, in conjunction with the chair of the Volunteer Support and Development Working Group of the IRC, strategies for service delivery changes and improvements across the organisation
  • Prepares budgets and manages area against agreed budget
  • Support the VSDWG in the development and implementation of membership recruitment in line with the Irish Red Cross Strategic goals.
  • Coordination of national and international events and conferences including content and practical arrangements
  • Generates reports on performance, improvements and areas for future development; develops reporting methodology to improve information flow within the organisation and for external communications
  • Provide strategic/project management and administrative support to the National Volunteer Support and Development Working Group.
  • Develop and support ongoing IT projects including Web portal and online platform development.
  • Attends at weekends and evening where required (1 weekend per month, two evenings per month)
  • Creates continuous process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, improve service delivery or reduce costs
  • Assists the Head of the department with other tasks as may be required.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Commitment to Red Cross Principles
  • Excellent IT skills to include presentations and report writing.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Be responsible, organised, reliable and able to work in a remote environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet set deadlines

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in the charities sector or in working with membership or volunteer-led organisations
  • Knowledge of the work of the Red Cross.
  • Experience of data management and protection and knowledge of the GDPR
  • Full, clean, drivers’ licence
