Child Law Project seeks reporter on private family law
The CCLRP (CLG), trading as the Child Law Project, is undertaking reporting on private family law proceedings in the High, Circuit and District courts for the Department of Justice.
At present, there is no comprehensive system for regularly reporting on private family law proceedings in relation to the orders being made. The overall aim of the establishment of the Project is to provide transparency for the public while ensuring that the in-camera rule is complied with and children’s and parents’ right to privacy is upheld. It will serve to increase awareness and understanding of family law proceedings, with the aim of furthering public understanding and confidence in the judicial determination of family law disputes.
The Child Law Project has published reports on child protection proceedings, providing information to the public on the operation of the child protection system in the courts since 2013, with the aim of promoting transparency and accountability, while protecting the anonymity of the children and their families. It will apply its knowledge and expertise to the private Family Law Reporting Project.
Accordingly, it is seeking a qualified barrister or solicitor to attend family law proceedings in order to prepare anonymised narrative reports of the proceedings and collect data that will be aggregated and analysed. Applicants should have an interest in family law and a demonstrable ability to write for a non-legal audience. They must be prepared to travel. Journalistic experience would be an advantage. Candidates will be interviewed and undergo an aptitude test.
Salary will be commensurate with appropriate experience, but will be in the region of €50,000-€60,000 pa. This is a full-time position.
Applications, along with a CV and a sample of published writing (other than a Law Report), should be sent to info@childlawproject.ie before 5.30 pm on 20th Feb 2026.
