Traveller Counselling Service: Chief Executive Officer – deadline Friday 16th October
The Chief Executive Officer is the most senior executive within Traveller Counselling Service CLG, reporting to the Board of Directors and holding overall responsibility for the leadership, strategic direction and performance of the organisation.
The CEO will lead a senior management team and work in close partnership with the Board to ensure that TCS continues to provide high-quality, culturally safe and financially sustainable counselling, mental health, community development, advocacy, anti-racism and human rights services to the Traveller community.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, strengthen organisational governance and sustainability, develop relationships with statutory and philanthropic funders, support the continued development of TCS’s services and ensure that Traveller self-determination, cultural safety and community participation remain central to the organisation’s work.
The CEO will also represent TCS nationally with statutory bodies, funders, community organisations, sectoral partners and relevant national committees and initiatives.
Responsibilities of the role
- Provide strategic and visionary leadership to TCS and work with the Board to develop and deliver the organisation’s strategic plan
- Act as principal adviser to the Board and ensure effective governance, oversight, accountability and organisational performance.
- Represent TCS as its principal spokesperson with funders, statutory bodies, community partners, sectoral organisations and other stakeholders.
- Represent TCS on relevant national, statutory and sectoral committees and forums, including state-led initiatives such as NITRIS, where appropriate.
- Hold overall responsibility for the financial health and long-term sustainability of the organisation.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with the HSE, Traveller Health Unit, Department of Children, Equality and Disability and other key funders and partners.
- Lead the diversification of income through philanthropic, corporate and other funding opportunities, with a focus on strengthening unrestricted income and organisational reserves.
- Work closely with the Clinical Director to ensure safe, effective and high-quality counselling and mental health services.
- Ensure robust clinical governance, safeguarding and child protection arrangements across the organisation.
- Provide leadership and support to the senior management team and wider staff team, promoting a positive, inclusive and culturally safe working environment.
- Oversee organisational HR, staff wellbeing, professional development and people management.
- Provide strategic direction to TCS’s community development and advocacy work.
- Champion Traveller self-determination, cultural safety, community participation, human rights and anti-racism across all aspects of the organisation.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and funder requirements, including charity governance, company law, GDPR, employment law and safeguarding obligations.
- Maintain effective organisational risk management and oversee key organisational infrastructure, including premises and IT.
