Trainee for Legal Research and Analysis- European Citizen Action Service, Brussels, Deadline 10 January

ECAS is a European association based in Brussels which aims to strengthen the voice of civil society and citizens with the European Union. Creating a European citizens’ house is one of our major projects. ECAS also runs Your Europe Advice for the European Commission, which consists of a multilingual team of some 60 legal experts answering some 17,000 questions per year. The association is legally oriented and a leading player when it comes to European citizens’ rights. Pro Bono support is provided by Freshfields, Bruckhaus, Deringer.

We have a vacancy for a trainee to provide us with extra support during 2013, the European year of citizens.

Candidates should have the following qualifications:
- Degree in law with knowledge of European community law particularly related to European rights and citizenship
- Ability to analyse and draft in impeccable English – for example to assist with preparing a European citizenship charter
- Good communication skills in English, French and preferably other languages
- If possible familiarity and experience with civil society organisations and citizens/fee legal advice services in particular.

Normally this could be an interesting assignment for a student in a gap year between a first degree and a Masters, whose university can provide a trainee agreement with ECAS. Ideally there could be a link to work on a Masters or PhD round the themes of Union citizenship. The tasks will be mainly research and drafting as indicated above. The successful candidate will be expected also to answer difficult questions from citizens and CSOs.

ECAS has a policy on recruitment of trainees which can be found here.

If you are interested, please send your curriculum vitae and a letter of motivation to Diana Coseano diana.coseano@ecas.org before 10 January 2013.
