Community Law and Mediation – Online Survey: Transparency and Consistency in Social Welfare Appeals Process – 28 July

Community Law & Mediation (CLM) is an independent community law centre (formerly Northside Community Law Centre) that works to empower individuals experiencing disadvantage by providing free legal information, free legal advice, education and mediation services. As part of its work in the area of law reform, CLM drafts policy submissions and undertakes research projects in various areas of law including the area of social welfare law.

Following its 2005 report The Social Welfare Appeals System: Accessible & Fair? CLM established Casebase, an anonymised database of social welfare appeals decisions. To mark the tenth anniversary of the Casebase project, CLM is conducting a further piece of research to analyse particular trends and/or issues emerging in the project over the last ten years. In particular, the key objective of the research is to examine the themes of transparency and consistency within the social welfare appeals system and in the decision making process of the Department of Social Protection. To inform the report, it is important to get input from advocates and representatives who have experience of the social welfare appeals process so the following survey has been developed. Please spare a few minutes to take the survey at:
