General Solicitor for Minors and Wards of Court, Courts Service – deadline 11 December 2014

The General Solicitor is the head of the Office of the General Solicitor with a staff of four assistant Solicitors and six support staff. The General Solicitor’s office is an office of the Courts Service and the General Solicitor reports to the Head of Supreme and High Court Operations. The General Solicitor acts in cases to which they are assigned by the President of the High Court and is the manager of the General Solicitor's Office.

As Committee or Guardian the General Solicitor assumes the legal identity of a Ward or Minor and, subject to the direction of the High Court, carries out all necessary legal and property management work on their behalf. The General Solicitor's Office has a wide remit which includes taking carriage of Wardship proceedings; acting as Committee of the Estate and/or Person of a Ward of Court or Guardian of a Minor; providing solicitor services in Wardship matters and acting as Amicus Curiae; and opposing costs in Wardship matters before the Taxing Master as directed by the Registrar of Wards of Court.
